Flu – Highly Contagious Disease that Needs Immediate Attention and Care

Flu is a highly serious and contagious disease that easily takes people into its grip. If not taken seriously this can even lead to the death of the patients. Especially with the spread of a new flu virus called H1N1 in the year 2009-2010, it has become important to generate awareness of this dreadful disease. The effect of this H1N1 virus was such that it causes the first flu pandemic in the past forty years. Flu is highly unpredictable and the virus of the flu can enter the body in many different ways making the situation to worsen more. Flu is such a disease which is neglected by everyone at the initial stage, it is only after the worsening of the situation that one rush to the doctor.

Thus to avoid this situation, Centers for Disease Control and prevention has suggested the following tips, so that people are able to protect themselves and their family from flu.

• Everyone is recommended to take yearly flu vaccine as this is the most vital step towards protecting oneself against flu. Young children, pregnant women and people with chronic health problems like diabetes and asthma are at high risk of flu and hence these people should be done with the flu vaccination. Flu vaccination is also important for health care workers who care for high risk people in order to prevent flu from spreading to other high risk people. Children under the age of six months should also be protected and vaccinated to reduce the risk of flu.

• Daily practice of few habits can also help one to protect themselves from flu. Covering of mouth and nose with a tissue while sneezing is quite helpful to reduce the chance of spreading of flu virus. Regular washing of hands in a day with soap and water also help to prevent the spreading of flu virus. one should avoid contacts with sick people and should take proper measures while infected with this disease.

• If one is found infected with flu, he or she should immediately see the doctor and take the anti-viral drugs to treat flu. Anti-viral drugs are prescription medicine and can be bought only after a doctor prescribed the medicine. It is important that one should immediately takes the anti-viral drugs to avoid the condition to be worsen.
